| BC-Brandschutz-Coating A is an officially approved cable coating system for horizontally and vertically laid electrical single cable, cable bundles and cable routes inside and outside according to IEC 60332 and FM. approval
|
Due to its high resistance against water and special chemicals BC-Brandschutz-Coating A is designed for areas, where due to exterior influences the use of BC-Brandschutz-Farbe or BC-Brandschutz-Kabelvollbandage is not possible, e. g. in areas of high humidity or in outside areas.
The function of an ablative coating based on an “energy consumption” chemical reaction. BC-Brandschutz-Coating A consists of materials, which need large amounts of energy to decompose. This chemical process is known as an “endothermic” reaction. When the cable, coated with BC-Brandschutz-Coating A, is exposed to fire, different chemical and physical reactions start, for instance evaporation, the coating changes its chemical structure and non-inflammable gases are set free, which held back the oxygen, which is needed for combustion processes. All these processes need large amounts of energy, which are extracted from the fire.
After decomposition of all organic components, a solid structure of inorganic components remains, offering further protection by insulation.
Application rates:
- Minimum wet application rate (inside) = 1800 g/m² ≈ 1000 µm dry
- Wet application rate as per approval = 3200 g/m² ≈ 1600 µm dry
- Exterior wet application rate (recommendation) = 4500 g/m² ≈ 2500 µm dry

With BC-Brandschutz-Coating A protected cable in the test oven. As there is no formulation of insulation foam, the fire protection is often worse than with an intumescent coating. The advantage is the usability in outside areas.

With the ablation coating BC-Brandschutz-Coating A protected horizontally laid cables and cable trays. The recommended wet application rate is 3.2 kg/m², corresponding with approximately 1.6 mm dry film thickness see FM approval. Due to the high layer thicknesses, intumescent coatings are often more economically and more suitable in inside areas.

BC-Brandschutz-Coating A is a fire retardant coating on ablation type base. As the protection is based on a cooling process, the coating must be applied very carefully and complete around the cable. In inside areas normally intumescent coatings are more suitable.
